Dan Smail continues to collect and study household or estate inventories from later medieval Europe, in the context of the [DALME](https://dalme.org/) project. It is fascinating to approach the medieval and early-modern household inventory not only as a source for the modern study of material culture but also as a device used by contemporaries to define, format, and convey information about their possessions.
