Dan Smail continues to collect and study household or estate inventories from later medieval Europe, in the context of the DALME project. It is fascinating to approach the medieval and early-modern household inventory not only as a source for the modern study of material culture but also as a device used by contemporaries to define, format, and convey information about their possessions.
